Welcome back!

OpenAI just launched Mobile Codex, bringing its coding agent directly to phones so developers can manage tasks from anywhere. It validates what mobile tools like OpenClaw already proved. The next wave of AI agents is becoming more mobile, faster, and always within reach. Let’s unpack…

Today’s Summary:

  • 🚀 OpenAI brings Codex to mobile

  • ⚙️ Claude automates small business operations

  • 🗣️ Thinking Machines enables simultaneous AI interaction

TOP STORY

OpenAI launches Mobile Codex

The Summary: OpenAI launched Codex in the ChatGPT mobile app, allowing users to manage work from phones while agents run remotely on computers. Users can review tasks, answer questions, approve changes, and start new tasks remotely. The system uses encrypted connections, keeping files and credentials on the remote machine.

Key details:

  • Syncs across devices without exposing machines to public internet

  • Rolling out on iOS and Android across all plans

  • Free tier gets full mobile functionality with rate limits

Why it matters: OpenAI's mobile launch validates what OpenClaw users already discovered: the most valuable coding ideas may happen outside keyboard sessions, wherever inspiration strikes. OpenAI democratizes access to this workflow, including a free tier, creating additional pricing pressure across the entire coding agent market.

ANTHROPIC

Claude automates payroll and bookkeeping

The Summary: Anthropic launched Claude for Small Business, embedding AI directly into tools like QuickBooks, PayPal, and HubSpot to automate finance, sales, and operations tasks. The package includes 15 pre-built workflows that handle payroll planning, monthly closes, and invoice tracking. Small businesses lag in AI adoption because most tools aren't designed for their workflows.

Key details:

  • Runs through Claude Cowork with toggle install; integrates QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, Docusign, Google Workspace, and Microsoft 365

  • Workflow example: match QuickBooks cash against incoming PayPal settlements, build a 30-day forecast, rank overdue items, queue reminders for approval

  • Data security is the biggest AI hesitation for small business owners

Why it matters: Claude for Small Business uses pre-packaged workflows to remove the setup burden that doomed previous automation waves, since small businesses lack technical staff to build custom integrations. The security hesitation points to the missing piece: trustworthy execution layers that require owner approval before anything sends or pays.

THINKING MACHINES

Thinking Machines AI responds in 200 milliseconds

The Summary: Thinking Machines Lab, founded by ex-OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, will release an AI system that processes audio, video, and text at the same time in 200-millisecond chunks instead of waiting for users to finish speaking. The new system combines a fast interaction model with a background reasoning model, achieving 0.40-second response times and enabling the model to interrupt naturally, react to visual cues, and speak while listening.

Key details:

  • Processes live translation by speaking in the target language while the user continues talking in the source language

  • Can count pushups in a real-time video while answering at the same time

  • When asked "remind me to breathe in and out every 4 seconds" the model maintains accurate timing without external clocks

  • Limited preview launching in coming months

Why it matters: Thinking Machines is trying to rebuild the entire AI stack around simultaneity. The dual architecture dissolves the tradeoff between fast answers and deep reasoning: users get both at once, with an interaction model maintaining presence while the background model runs the reasoning. Translation flows more naturally. Gestures and timing can replace instructions.
